Alpha Omega
"Our goal is to provide homeschool families with a Bible-based education using K-12 curriculum brands they can trust, while offering the most up-to-date homeschool curriculum resources. We understand that each child learns differently. So, we've created our curriculum to be flexible and customizable. You can use each brand individually or mix and match them to build a curriculum that meets your family's needs. For the student who enjoys learning on the computer, we offer Switched-On-Schoolhouse, our computer-based curriculum. For the student who enjoys a more traditional approach, we offer a worktext curriculum, LIFEPAC. The Horizons curriculum is most effective for students who master concepts more quickly and enjoy learning at a faster pace. If your students learn best in a group where they can build upon each other's accomplishments, the Weaver curriculum is the program for you. We also have Power-Glide, a comprehensive, independent-study, foreign language series for the student desiring to learn a foreign language. And, for the student who needs to develop or enhance reading, spelling, and comprehension skills we offer ARC. "

I have found Lifepac to be complicated for me. My daughter is doing ok with it. I am the one that had the problems with it. The Math doesn't give me the examples that I need to show her steps of how to work certain problems and I have found that some of the answers in the teachers manuals to be different from the right answer. This being that the book had been updated and the answers changed or it was due to a typographical error. We have done ok with this one but if I could afford it, I would rather use Abeka. It seems they
have different ways to teach your child. They not only have text books, they also have video tapes and classroom style teaching also. I am going to finish out the year with Lifepac and then going to teach her myself next year. Connie Ross
I have found the Horizons math grades 3-6 great. The lessons are well explained and laid out in an easy to use way. My son was able to complete almost everything on his own with little help from me. After completing grade 6, he tested at the pre-algebra level for Saxon math which is above his grade level.
I like the Lifepacs for grades 1-2 for Language Arts amd math, but I don't care for them much after that. My children did not like (and neither did I) the Lifepacs for Bible, History, or Science. We found them boring. Having 4 children, I also feel like I'm throwing money away by using all those consumable worktexts. I like the idea of using books again for younger children when they get to that age level.
I've also used SOS and we loved it until they came out with a new version and we no longer like it. The new version seems to be tailored to classroom use and no longer to home use.
We used the Alpha Omega History and Geograpy 3rd grade this year. My daughter and I were not happy with it at all. The answers that they wanted were not found in the text. You were expected to do some elaborate and beyond the grade level thinking to get the answers. The geography was boring and not challenging enough. We also found the curriculum not relevent to much of anything. I will not be using Alpha Omega again.
I have a kiddo on the Autism Spectrum (Aspergers) and Horizon's Math worked great for him. It constantly reviews concepts so mastery is achieved. HE also has visual / spacial organizational issues and the color blocked problems helped him. (Every other problem was shaded to provide visual separation in the first grade workbooks). It is well laid out and easy to follow. He got good foundations and tested well above average on standardized testing.
I have used Horizons math for 3 children from level K yo 5 and we love it. the kids don't want to stop doing their math book. Sometimes the complain when i tell them it's time to put it away.
I FEEL THE SAME WAY,LIFEPAC NOT
FOR ME I HAVE HERD THAT ABEKA
WAS GOOD, THAT'S WHAT I WILL
DO FOR NEXT YEAR
