Do You Have Time for Just One More Thing?

Recently, I just about lost my cool.

I was chatting with a lady and she said that I should be participating in a certain weekly daytime event, since I just stayed at home and had the time to do it...

Yes, can you believe it?

Now, ANY mom - I don't care if the only thing you do is 'keep house'- has just as much trouble with time management as anyone else, if not more.

I mean, think about it. There's breakfast, baths, teeth brushing, dressing, homeschool, picking up, lunch, answering a million questions, planning meals, grocery shopping, cleaning supply shopping, dishes, laundry - mounds of never ending laundry - dinner, matching outfits, putting to bed, changing sheets, picking up again, providing activates, keeping an eye on them outside, more picking up....

And it's never ending.

So, I'm sure you can understand that I almost lost my cool. I wanted to yell at her, 'Why don't you do it since all you do is work 8 to 5.' At least her work day ends.

But, you may be surprised to know that on top of homeschooling, and on top of my homeschooling websites, and on top of being a homemaker, I also run a professional carpet cleaning business.

How do you manage all that? you might ask. Well, that's a time management story for another day.

The point today is that I know that your schedules are crammed full with more things to do than there are hours in a day. You are not alone.

And here's the way I weekly release some mental stress:

My husband gives me every Monday night all to myself. When he gets home from work, he does dinner, takes care of the kids, and sends me off to do whatever. Sometimes I shop, sometimes I go out to dinner, sometimes I see a movie, sometimes I wander the bookstore.

And when I get back, I'm fresh and ready to take on the world again. Give it a try and see if it works for you - even if you need to use a sitter. Your mental health is important for everyone you take care of.

Well, chew on it, and have a great evening,

Laura Bankston

P.S. The answer to the subject line is 'yes, you do have time for one more thing'. Time to take a night off for yourself. It will improve your outlook on life and your overall ability for time management.
