Math-U-See

The reason we study math is so we can apply what we learn in everyday situations. Math·U·See's goal is to help produce confident problem solvers who enjoy the study of math. The students learn their math facts, rules, and formulas, and are able to use this knowledge in real life applications. The study of math is much more than committing a list of facts to memory. It includes memorization, but it also encompasses learning the concepts that are critical to problem solving.

We love Math-U-See. It teaches in all major learning styles. It explains the WHY. I have learned tons. My children don't want to do things if they don't make since but Math-U-See does. It teaches how to do math in your head quickly and how to write it down quickly and check your answers. It teaches tips and tricks of math. It's also very easy to teach very little pre time. Almost none now that they have the test pages and extra work sheets printed for the student instead of just a master in teachers manual.

Note that we do use Math-It to supplement hear and there but were told that will likely not be necessary in the future as the program is now more comprehensive.

The songs for skip counting really help and the order that they teach things in just make since and make progression that might otherwise be hard new concept easy.

They use all different signs and wording from the beginning for every operation as well as introduce word problems from the beginning.

Its one program we will not change from.

The above comment was removed by me as it was critical of a previous post's spelling/grammar. There are more important things in life than worrying about everything being totally perfect. The information on the curriculum is valuable to us all - and only someone "little" would pass the value and criticize the message

I question all curricula until I test it on my two boys who are very different learners. WE WILL NEVER CHANGE FROM THIS PROGRAM!Both my sons have lept ahead of their grade level with minimal time on my part. The way the concepts are presented allows them to absorb math like a sponge. In two hours my 4 year old started counting and reading numbers in the hundreds and now as a seven year old in first grade he will soon be covering his multiplication tables. I am an advocate for letting a child learn at a comfortable pace so using this curricula amazes me in two ways, FIRST how well a child knows the material after it has been learned and SECOND, how quickly they want to proceed to the next lesson.
The Math U See DVD lessons the kids love and they like to see how far they come by tabbing through the lessons to their current lesson. Plus the teacher/creater of Math u See in the lessons is very child friendly. Both my boys will audibly respond to his DVD instructions!
